Welcome to “How do you Tweet yours”
When I started using Twitter, I noticed two things:
- It wasn’t obvious what I had to do
- Everyone seemed to think it worked slightly differently
Over time, it became clear to me. Twitter is the concept of posting 140 characters of information to web. Why you do that, or what you do with the result varies from person to person. One persons waste of time is another persons hobby.
The idea of this blog is to provide a simple guide on getting started while looking at the different uses people put Twitter to - and how well these work. Feel free to comment with your own!
So, how do you use Twitter?
My name is @kevupnorth, and I’m a Twitterholic.
I use Twitter for work and social purposes. But, to be honest, most of my friends don’t use it, so it’s mainly work.
Twitter for me is about networking and getting information. I Tweet where I’m going, what I’m doing and what I’ve found out. I Tweet links and Re_Tweet others who I think professional contacts may be interested in. I Tweet pictures of things I spot that I think might be interesting to other people.
I do use Twitter self-endulgently. It is about me. I tweet pictures of myself when I go to places or even, once, when I was in hospital. It’s very personal to me - I share very publicly quite private parts of my life.
That said, it’s about sharing. I don’t often send private messages and I try to index my tweets with tags so that people can find them and use that information.
It’s good for getting to know people and fast responses. In reading Tweets, I use it to keep up to date with important information and other feeds. I use it to find out where my contacts are, what they are doing and whether I need to be involved.
So, how do you Tweet yours?
